Sinds de 16e eeuw tot op heden wisselden pedagogen van Nederlandstalige origine elkaar af, maar pas in 1995 werd hier voor het eerst een volwaardige bachelorstudie Nederlands geopend onder leiding van Wilken Engelbrecht met hulp van Theo Puttemans en Edna Deudney. De cursus zal met 12 studenten beginnen. Bovendien bestaat de mogelijkheid om Fries en Afrikaans als bijvakken te nemen. In Olomouc, hoofdstad van de regio Haná, begint Nederlands een belangrijke taal te worden vanuit het oogpunt van toenemende investeringen. Bovendien heeft de Nederlandse gemeente Veenendaal een partnerschap met Olomouc. Sinds september 1996 kan Nederlands ook als keuzevak worden gedaan bij het Slovanské gymnázium te Olomouc.

From the 16th century onwards there were several Dutch pedagogues at the university in Olomouc, but Dutch became a subject first in September 1995 with the beginning of a bachelor program Dutch Philology as a third subject. The course will begin with 12students. The university has now one professor, drs. Wilken Engelbrecht, who will get two other colleagues in January 1996, drs. Theo Puttemans and dr. Edna Deudney. The students will have the possibility to study as a voluntary subject also Afrikaans language and Frisian language. In Olomouc, the main city of the Haná region, Dutch becomes an important language, as investments and tourism are growing. Moreover the Dutch city of Veenendaal became a twinning city. From September 1996 onwards Dutch can bestudied as a voluntary subject also on a secondary school level in the Slovanské gymnázium.
