The article is based on the recognition that school self-evaluation as the only mechanism of quality development on the school level in a decentralized system is insufficient. That´s why the article is focused on positive potential of benchmarking processes proved by experiences from abroad. With the use of analytical-descriptive research methods it further presents reality of making use of benchmarking processes in current Czech schooling, their already realized dimensions as well as limits preventingtheir use on different level of the system.
