As the highest level of educational system, doctoral study has been a milestone in the academic career of researchers. The doctoral study programme of education prepares future researchers in the subject of education. However, does it really work? What the doctoral study brought to the Ph.D. graduates in their academic career? The article is devoted to explore the effect of doctoral study of education on Ph.D. graduates' academic career on their perspective. Qualitative studies are used to follow the route of their growth mainly in three steps of their life: before their doctoral study, during their doctoral study and after their doctoral study. Their experience has been recorded and transcribed into life stories and analyzed with the method of open coding. The academic performance and statement is compared among these three periods of their academic career. Three categories of effect brought from doctoral study of education are listed as the cognition of education as a subject of scie
