Next Generation Classroom as an Instrument for Motivation in Mathematics
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The paper presents new generation classroom models that could be useful for motivation in mathematics at primary and secondary school. It has been shown a number of times that a challenging and encouraging environment has a direct influence on the pupil's motivation for learning. When teaching, teachers have been constantly facing a problem of how to make mathematics more interesting to pupils. It is closely linked to pedagogical constructivism principles which emphasise pupils' own building of set of experience, which is generally seen as non-transferable. Even though this building process results from the obtained information, it is conditioned by the cognitive pre-conceptions of pupils. Therefore we have to give pupils the chance and space to develop cooperative and creative thinking in an adequate classroom environment. There pupils are given the chance to experiment and discover, resulting in the feelings of success and joy. Implementing constructivist approaches is not trivial, as this requires conditions which encourage and support pupils' activity. According to these principles, there is a simple basic assumption that the next generation classroom could be a suitable tool for the teacher in mathematics lessons - once the teacher has been successful, the constructivist cognitive process of the pupils has been started - the pupils start creating their own images and building their own structure of pieces of knowledge. The pupils' internal world becomes a place where comprehension processes take place, images occur and concepts crystallise. There is mostly widespread one typical classroom arrangement in Czech Republic at primary and secondary school which is not often very inspiring for pupils. Therefore, this paper is trying to find ways and possibilities of changing this common situation by using the new generation classroom principles (using ICT technology, project-based arrangements etc.)
