As part of research focused on virtual teaching, the Faculty of Education of the Palacký University has been carrying out a comparative study on teaching effectiveness which started in summer term of 2014. This research compares the effectiveness of teaching in an experimental group in the virtual environment of Second Life with teaching in a control group in a traditional lesson focused on textual form. This contribution sums up the experience of both teachers and students with virtual teaching, which, in contrast with traditional teaching, has its specifics. It outlines the process of comparison of these two types of teaching, but most importantly, it describes experience and opinions of students who experienced this kind of teaching. The opinion of the students is expressed in a semi-structured questionnaire after each study unit. The students participating in the research study their mother tongue - in this case Czech language and literature.
