the publication provides an insight into the possibilities of assessment of communication pragmatics in children with autism spectrum disorders in order to bring new knowledge to extend the theoretical base in special education and specifically in speech-language pathology, as well as in related scientific disciplines aimed at diagnosis and intervention in the area of autism spectrum disorders, language impairment and intellectual disability. The fundamental theme that links all partial topics is a pro-inclusive approach, according to which the area of speech-language pathology (just as many others) needs to face the variations and deficits in the area of communication pragmatics in the context of relevant diagnostic assessment. Speech-language diagnosis or diagnosis-oriented intervention is regarded a crucial component of assessing the communication aspects of a comprehensive intervention aimed at persons with autism spectrum disorders.
