Teachers’ Professional Skills in the Area of Special Education as a Value for Sichuan Province

To understand the current situation of special educational teachers’ professional skills and to provide useful references for in-service teachertraining and pre-service teacher preparation to promote the development of special education in Sichuan Province. Based on multiple research methods including questionnaires, interviews, and fieldwork, this study surveys 280 in-service teachers from 30 special schools in Sichuan Province by using a selfdevised questionnaire. Results: 1) The professional skills of special educational teachers in Sichuan Province are generally in good condition, but the development is not balanced, and is characterized by differences within groups and unbalanced development of each dimension of professional skills. 2) There are no significant differences in terms of region or professional background. 3) The professional skills of special education teachers differ according to the teachers’ age and the length of time they have been involved in special education.
