Pupils' Perceptions of Computer Aided Instruction in Mathematics
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
In the present paper we shall discuss various ways of making mathematical concepts more approachable to pupils of elementary and secondary schools. As a lot of papers deal with this issue, we decided to adopt a specific point of view focused on the views, attitudes and evaluation of the effectiveness of using ICT (Information and Communication Technology) in mathematics instruction by the pupils themselves. We were interested in finding out whether the use of ICT in mathematics teaching is beneficial for them, whether in terms of increasing their interest in mathematics, increasing their mathematical literacy - better understanding of mathematical concepts, visualization of concepts etc. We also wondered whether pupils' attitudes and opinions differ depending on the gender and the grade of the school (we looked for possible differences in primary and secondary school pupils’ opinions). The necessary data were collected by means of a questionnaire that had been distributed electronically through Google forms. We received a total of nearly 2000 responses to each question, we used descriptive statistics tools and basic tests (nonparametric Mann-Whitney U test to compare ordinal data collected as a response of Likert scale questions) to determine dependency variables.
