The Influence of the Family on the Value of Education of Pupils from Ukraine in the Czech Republic
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Since 1989, a number of families with children have been continuously migrating to the Czech Republic every year, including mainly the immigrants from East Slavic countries, especially from Ukraine. Members of foreign nationality bring not only their expectations to the Czech education, but also a number of their cultural differences and specifics that affect the education of their descendants. The aim of our paper is to specify and evaluate the role of the family in the issue of education and the formation of the value of education among Ukrainian students. From the position of parents, we analyse parental attitudes to children's school education, expectations from children's education in the Czech Republic and its reflection, parents' attitudes to children's school performance, preparation for school, degree of cooperation between parents and pedagogical staff. From the pupils' point of view, we analyse how they perceive the influence of the family on their education. Data are obtained in the framework of qualitative design using the method of semi-structured interviews with families and pupils of Ukrainian origin. Data analysis takes place through open, axial and selective coding
