Teachers‘ perception of the introduction of digital technology in teaching mathematics

  • Popis výsledku v původním jazyce

Digital technology is rapidly developing in our time. Emerging generations should acquire knowledge and skills on how to use them effectively in everyday life, but also in their education. The use of digital technologies needs to be effectively integrated into the educational process. This topic is currently being discussed more and more in society. In the Czech Republic, many projects implemented at national level deal with this issue, new strategic and conceptual documents are being prepared and existing curricular documents at the national level are revised. Revision of curricular documents envisage that digital literacy will be one of the main objectives of teaching all school subjects, which should be achieved through appropriately designed curriculum and appropriate involvement of digital technologies. In this paper we focus on the subject of mathematics and therefore we can mention that the main objectives of teaching mathematics should be both the development of mathematical literacy and digital literacy. Members of the Department of Mathematics of the Faculty of Education of the Palacký University in Olomouc, Czech Republic, conducted research to verify the preparedness of primary and lower secondary school teachers for these changes. In our paper we will focus mainly on how teachers perceive their readiness to use digital technologies in mathematics teaching, developing digital literacy of their pupils, and perceiving current educational reforms aimed at developing digital literacy in all school subjects. The questionnaire survey was chosen by a data collection technique to implement the planned research. Questionnaires were electronically distributed to primary and lower secondary schools in the Czech Republic. The data obtained from the questionnaire were analyzed and processed using standard statistical methods.
