    The text represents a part of a research study within the project Impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on selected functions and conditions of preschool education in the context of preparing children to start compulsory school attendance in selected European countries conducted at the Faculty of Education of the Palacký University in Olomouc. The paper focuses on a comparative study involving the Czech Republic and Denmark with the aim of analyzing and comparing how anti-epidemic measures affected the conditions of preschool education and the fulfillment of the functions of preschool education in state and forest kindergartens with an emphasis on the educational and socialization function. A qualitative research strategy was used using a semi-structured interview followed by open coding, formulation of analytical categories and their comparison according to the principles of comparative pedagogy. The results indicate that the impact of anti-epidemic measures on preschool education in state and forest kindergartens differs both in fulfilling the functions of preschool education and in the conditions under which forest kindergartens operated during the pandemic.
