Název v původním jazyce
An international perspective in physical education and professional preparation in adapted physical education and adapted physical activity
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
This chapter describes the status of teacher and professional preparation in adapted physical activity (APA) in some countries around the world. Countries are quite diverse with regard to provisions in education, especially when they relate to diversity and disability. Given their size and political situations, some countries show an obscure and paradoxical educational development and civil rights reality. Due to economic burden, prevalence of the medical model of disability, segregation policies, and cultural beliefs, many societies continue to institutionalize individuals with disability. Awareness of such reality may help physical educators to expand their critical thinking, advocacy skills, as well as broadening professional competences in the APA field that effectively contribute to a diverse audience in unique cultural settings.
