The paper deals with problems of tourism branch in the Czech Republic. It analyses the situation on travel agencies market in the connection with the legislation framework for conducting business in this field. The EU regulation nr.90/314/EHS from the year 1990, which refers to collective services for travelling, stays and excursions, is implemented into the Czech national legislation system by means of the law nr.159/1999 of the Code concerning certain conditions of entrepreneurship in the area of tourism; it was amended in 2006. In the Czech Republic there are approximately 650 travel offices and about 7000 travel agencies nowadays. This represents 11,000 inhabitants per one travel agency, which is the lowest ratio in comparison with other countriesin European Union, where it is 860,000 people per one travel agency on average.
