Managerial competencies of head and department nurses in the facultative hospital Brno Bohunice

Head and department nurses were the target groups of this research in the Faculty Hospital, Brno. This paper deals with their managerial competencies. 846 respondents participated in a questionnaire research covering 724 nurses, 99 department nurses and23 head nurses. This research shows that informal relationships predominate in the Hospital and it is based on the democratic managerial style of department and head nurses. Nurses in management positions are quite satisfied with their managerial skills(67,7 % cases). Half of respondents (123 nurses) said that do not want to manage people in future. This is also the case with department nurses of whom 84 % do not want manage people despite the fact that they are actually managing people in their current positions. On the other hand more then 80 % of department and head nurses would like to participate in management and human resource management courses.
