The evidence of lower economic performance of food processing businesses settled in new EU member states on one hand and the need for investment development of their assets on the other hand, constitute the major critical factors of sustainable competiveness of this group of business entities. Food processing business entities should consider opportunities of EU Food safety and quality policy, especially in the area of food production's quality towards improvement of their economic efficiency and competitiveness, respectively. Production of animal origin's food belongs to the most important branches of food production in economic sense, because it creates the biggest value of food production. The contribution aims at identification of economic efficiency development of animal origin food processors settled in the V4 countries, employing labor productivity development in comparison with traditional food producing EU country, namely Italy.
