A parameter of the main forest road density in opening-up the forest

The forest road network density is the most frequently used parameter to evaluate the level of opening-up the forest and the development of forest management. Presenting the forest road network density it is necessary to mention if it refers to the density of main forest roads, to the density of the whole forest road network including skidding roads and skidding tracks or if public roads are also included into the parameter value. Provided the value of a parameter of the forest road network density doesnot include these specific data we can consider the parameter to be rather relative. The forest road network density is given by the ratio of the forest road length to the area subject to opening up. The ratio is expressed in m/ha. Nevertheless, it doesnot include data on the distribution of roads in the area and the value of their spacing. These data are, however, included in a parameter named the forest access efficiency. It is a relative value independent on the forest road density.
