The paper is devoted to the results of the second stage of an internal research project, which has been implemented since 2008 at the Lifelong Learning Institute at Mendel University in Brno. Analysis of the educational needs of students undertaking theBachelor degree in Specialization in Pedagogy was carried out by a questionnaire. The fi rst part is devoted to the attitudes of student teachers to the graduate profi le for the fi eld of study, and the issue of the content of study programs is also addressed, with a focus on the practical component. The second part of the paper focuses on research into the professional skills of student teachers which are essential to the successful working life of graduates.This section describes in detail the signifi cance of selected professional skills in relation to the graduate employment market. From a comparison of the results of the investigation, it can be concluded that students deemed the most important areas of professional competence to
