The study included 50 high-producing Holstein cows, divided into 2 groups by 25. The treated group received 5g of Biosaf (Saccharomyces cerevisiae Sc 47) daily. The control group received a basic diet. The Biosaf supplementation started three weeks afterthe calving and lasted for 5 months. Milk production and composition was measured. Once a month, rumen fluid was analysed for pH, ammonia, VFA, lactate, and biochemical parameters of blood were measured. The Biosaf group showed a significant increase inmilk production as compared with the controls (38.95 kg/day vs. 37.38 kg/day) (P < 0.01), protein and fat percentages were not significantly changed. The Biosaf group showed significantly higher rumen fluid pH (6.58 vs. 6.33) (P < 0.01) and lower lactatelevel (P < 0.01), and higher VFA formation. In the serum of Biosaf treated animals, significantly higher glukose levels and lower BHB and PUFA levels were measured.
