Assessment preferences of IT and management students
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The assessment, which is together with motivation, explanation, fixing and applying the new knowledge, an important part of the process of instruction, is not paid enough attention from the teachers´ side as it definitely deserves. Teachers are making strong efforts to create the same conditions and apply identical criteria to all learners. This approach seems to be fair. However, in reality it is not, as it does not consider individual preferences of single students. This fact was the main reason why the research on students´ preferences in various methods of assessment was detected. The research was conducted at the University of Hradec Kralove, Faculty of Informatics and Management, Czech Republic. The research sample consisted of 473 students of Informatics and Management study programmes. The method of questionnaire was applied; respondents expressed their preferences to 18 assessment formats, oral and written, individual and group ones, on the six-level Likert scale. The research was conducted twice, in 2014 and 2016 academic years, and the collected data were processed by the NCSS2007 statistic software by the method of frequency analysis and compared. As not expected, the results showed only slight differences in students´ assessment preferences. Regardless this finding, a wide variety of assessment formats should be provided to students so as they could efficiently ´show their teachers what they have learned.
