A Smale spaces is a type of hyperbolic dynamical system introduced by Ruelle to model the behaviour of the restriction of a so-called 'Axiom A diffeormorphism' to its basic sets. Examplesninclude shifts of nite type, certain tiling spaces, and Anosov diffeormorphisms. From a Smale space we can construct several C*-algebras which capture different aspects of the dynamics. Thisnnote explores the interactions between Smale spaces and C*-algebras. Topological dynamics and Smale spaces are introduced along with several examples. It is shown how the dynamics of anSmale space leads to étale groupoids, which are then used to construct C*-algebras. Properties of the C*-algebras and their relation to properties of the Smale space are investigated. Appendicesnon the basics of C*-algebras are included.
