On Airborne Nano/Micro-Sized Particles Released from Low-Metallic Automotive Brakes
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The paper addresses the wear particles released from commercially available low16 metallic automotive brake pads subjected to brake dynamometer tests. Particle size 17 distribution was measured in situ and the generated particles were collected. The collected 18 fractions and the original bulk material were analyzed using several chemical and 19 microscopic techniques. The experiments demonstrated that airborne wear particles with 20 sizes between 10 nm and 20 ?m were released into the air. The numbersof nanoparticles were by five orders of magnitude larger when compared to the microparticles. A 22 significant release of nanoparticles was measured when the average temperature of the rotor 23 reached 300°C, the combustion initiation temperature of organics present in brakes. In 24 contrast to particle size analyzers, the microscopic analysis revealed the presence of 25 nanoparticles in all captured fractions
