Zu Beginn der 60. Jahre des 19. Jahrhunderts kam es in der Habsburger Monarchie zur Erneuerung des Parlamentarismus und Konstitutionalismus des Staatswesens. Dies ermöglichte, zusammen mit der Liberalisierung der politischen und ökonomischen Verhältnisse, der im Entstehen begriffenen tschechischen Zivilgesellschaft den schrittweisen Ausbau ihrer Verwaltungs-, Organisations-, Wirtschafts- und Finanzstrukturen. Das von Eliška Krásnohorská im Jahre 1890 gegründete klassische Mädchengymnasium wurde vom Verein für das Frauenstudium ?Minerva? verwaltet. Die öffentliche Tätigkeit der tschechischen Frauen, insbesondere auf dem Gebiet der Bildung, trug auf grundsätzliche Art und Weise zum Prozess der Demokratisierung der tschechischen Gesellschaft und zur schrittweisen Realisierung der Gleichberechtigung zwischen Mann und Frau in den böhmischen Ländern bei.

Renewed parliamentarianism and constitutionalism in the early 1860s as well as partial liberalization of political and economic conditions in the Habsburg Monarchy resulted in the gradual establishment of administrative, organizational, economic and financial structures promoting the development of civic society. In 1890, Eliška Krásnohorská established such a school, a gymnasium? connected with the Minerva Association, which was fully responsible for funding the private school. The school received regular and considerable financial support from the Council of the Royal Capital of Prague, from the Land Committee of the Diet of the Czech Kingdom, from contributions of Minerva Association members, occasional donations from corporations, financial institutions, private persons etc. The women?s activities related to the public sector, strongly contributed to the process of democratization and to the gradual establishment of equal of rights for women in Czech society.
