The psychology of personal constructs developed by George Alexander Kelly provides a specific view of psychological meaning. It interprets human action as governed by schemata called personal constructs. These are hierarchically organized bipolar patterns through which a person sees, understands and anticipates elements (people, events, ideas, etc.). Personal constructs can be interpreted as meaning dimensions channelizing ways in which an individual makes sense of the world. These dimensions are guidelines of his or her action. The chapter explores basic features of the constructivist (psycho) semantic approach ? meaning holism, anti-substantialism, anti-essentialism, experientialism and relationism. A fragment of a case study is presented in order todemonstrate these features. It shows how a specific way of construing the social world may lead to a development of symptoms, such as delusions.
