Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The aim of this article is to compare the Church Slavonic text of The Story of the Moldavian Tradition, which is said to have been written in 1723 (and preserved in 1794), and its Russian translation, npublished in 1830. Both texts appear to have been written by Ukrainian speakers in Moldavia west of Prut, and both were published in Cyrillic semi-uncial. The first part of our paper summarisesnthe context of the work, which is one of the last original Church Slavonic works from Romanian-speaking countries. The second part characterises the language of both the Church Slavonicnand the Russian versions. The main part of the article describes the translator’s strategy when faced with the task of rendering a text from a language whose vocabulary largely overlaps withnthe target language.
