(In)correctness in proper names from the viewpoint of the Czech Language Consulting Centre

The general public addresses the Language Consulting Centre of the Czech Language Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences especially trying to ascertain or verify the correctness of linguistic phenomena. From the point of view of the (in)correctness, the queries from the field of proper names can be classified into several thematic areas that are to be analysed in the paper: orthographic, morphological or phonetic correctness of the individual names and their forms, conflicts between linguistic and geographical standardization, acceptability of the use of the individual endonyms and exonyms concerning the changes of the geopolitical situation, as well as the acceptability of Czechization of anthroponyms, “correctness” of unofficial name forms, determination of the correct form of names of historical personalities etc.
