We put together a X-ray training course for students. The course covers fundamental properties of synchrotron radiation and basic techniques like scattering and absorption. We prepared about 10 experiments together with a tutorial. The whole course takesabout a week. A first student group from the University of Copenhagen passed the course in June 2009. The experiments have been carried out at the optics beamline of the Swiss Light Source which can be part-time allocated for training purposes. We report briefly about all experiments. Two selected experiments which may be also of more generic interest will be covered in more detail: the scattering on a free-hanging drop of liquid and solid water (ice) and the power measurement of the pink synchrotron beam with a simple calorimeter.
