Impact of Selected Rejuvenators on Mechanical and Performance Based Characteristics

  • Popis výsledku v původním jazyce

Recycling of asphalt pavements have become in recent years one of the very significant technical trends of the road construction industry. Reasons why this trend should be promoted and further developed are countless in particular it is necessary to maintain sustainable development with regard to possible energy savings. This is associated with the limitation of natural resources exploitation, or with waste reduction. It is therefore a general effort to use in a best way recycled materials from existing roads back in the new designs of asphalt mixtures, minimizing the negative impacts of degraded material. In parallel attention has to be paid to achieving the best possible durability of the newly designed asphalt mixture. An important aspect which affects the fundamental characteristics of the mix will undoubtedly be the content of added reclaimed asphalt material (RAP). Within the framework of assessing the effects of selected types of commercially available or industrially developed rejuvenators on the characteristics of asphalt mixtures containing 30 % of RAP, asphalt concrete ACL16+ according to ČSN EN 13108-1 was selected. With regard to the perspective of chemical additives, rejuvenators of a new product series developed by Paramo, as well as other commercial products like AdGreen and Sylvaroad were selected. For each variant in particular deformation characteristics (stiffness, resistance to crack propagation) were assessed and at the same time asphalt durability was determined by resistance to water immersion. The results of the laboratory study are presented in the paper.
