    The territory of Bohemia and Moravia has a compact settlement structure, which wasfounded in the Middle Ages, in some cases even earlier. Total number of settlements in the Czech Republic is approximately 6,250 pieces. About five thousand settlements have less than one thousand inhabitants. Although these small villages is the majority of the total, their are mostly underdeveloped tahn bigger cityes. There is a lack of public amenities and elementary infrastructure, where the major is the communication network with the squares or villages commons - the public space system. Public spaces are key to living life and mutual interaction of the population not just in smaller settlements. The current form of the settlement structure consists of a specific network of settlements, which is characterized by a high density and equability of placement (distance between settlements is about 1.5 km in average) of small settlements firmly connected with the countryside. Basic features of the Czech settlement structure is human scale, size, spatial and functional differentiation and closeness associated with interaction between villages. The aim of the thesis is to capture and describe actual and historical typical public space of the streets of a small settlements with a focus on the transport area, which is characteristic and typical for the Czech villages. A detailed analysis of Czech small settlements will specify individual characters of public transport areas. Repeating characters will be recorded as characteristic features of this spaces. Summary of this features together with their description should be used for preservation or re-creation of the image of typical Czech countryside.
