The Czech Technical University in Prague (CTU) created a Froude scaled hydraulic models of the design proposed by Calibre Engineering (Calibre) for the Sort Whitewater Park. The modelling study included a scaled model of the proposed improvements to the Sort Whitewater Park and Noguera Pallaresa River in the project area in order to evaluate and optimize the flow characteristics of the proposed park. The model constructed accurately portrayed the proposed design for the channel at a Froude scale that has been shown to provide accurate visual and measured hydraulic information such as flow velocities, depths, water surface profiles, and wave shapes, and sizes. The study was used to optimize the geometry of the river such that the whitewater park functioned as intended and then to optimize the wave shapes. The modeling resulted in slight changes to the geometry of the proposed drop structure geometry from the computer modeled version. The geometric outputs of the study have been used to update Calibre’s design drawings.
