This paper deals with a particular area of personnel management - employee motivation. The number of university-educated employees has grown sharply in the industrialized countries in recent years, but the percentage of them in managerial positions is constantly decreasing, so it is this group of employees which is the focus of this paper. In particular, it compares the motivation factors of teachers and specialist bank employees. Common to these two groups is the fact that their employees are university graduates but do not hold managerial posts ? they are not managers. The paper, which is based on the author?s original research, sets out the importance of the different motivating factors for each group of employees and the extent to which the different factors are satisfied in the two groups.
