Anotace anglicky

Diva Montis Sancti (1665) is one of the most important works by Bohuslav Balbín on Marian pilgrimage sites. Apart from the outline of the cultural/historical context and placing the work among similar examples of the genre, the project focuses on the comparison of the Latin text with its translation into Czech by Matěj Václav Štejer (Přepodivná Matka Svatohorská, 1666) and German (Heiliger Berg, 1668), whose author remains unknown. Both translations can be characterized as paraphrases, intended for a less educated reader; in contrast with the historical/patriotic function of the original, which was aimed at the educated European elites, the translations accentuate the text’s religious/educative function. Formal and linguistic analysis together with discussion of the content will form the basis for translatological analysis. Combined with a critical edition of the Latin and Czech mutation of the text, the project will serve as a foundation for further literary/historical research of the typology of Baroque translations.
