A contrastive study of information structure in Czech novels and their English translations examining the differences arising from a different hierarchy of the word order principles in English and Czech. The points discussed include the linear ordering of sentences elements, information structure of the sentence within the theoretical framework of Functional Sentence Perspective, and agreement / disagreement with the basic distribution of communicative dynamism.
