El artículo La traducción literaria como el compromiso social y cultural: traductores de la literatura checa en México interpreta el papel del traductor en la génesis de las traducciones de la literatura checa publicadas originalmente en México. Hasta la fecha se publicaron originalmente en México trece títulos de la literatura checa, la mayoría de ellos gracias a la iniciativa del traductor. Aplicando los principios de la arqueología de traducción y basándonos en las entrevistas realizadas con los traductores contemporáneos, explicamos el motivo y objetivo de estas traducciones. Desde las distintas perspectivas de la investigación sociológica de traducción nos centramos en el papel del traductor como mediador entre dos culturas, quien (in)conscientemente asume la responsabilidad de la mediación socio-cultural entre la cultura de partida y la cultura meta. Con la ayuda de los traductores literarios pretendemos entender la labor traductológica en su amplio contexto y realzar su valor social y cultural para ambos países.

The article interprets the role of the translator in the genesis of translations of Czech literature originally published in Mexico. To date, thirteen titles of Czech literature have been originally published in Mexico, most of them thanks to the initiative of the translator. Applying the principles of translation archeology and based on interviews with contemporary translators, we explain the motive and purpose of these translations. From the different perspectives of sociological translation research, we focus on the role of the translator as a mediator between two cultures, who (in) consciously assumes responsibility for the socio-cultural mediation between the starting culture and the target culture. With the help of literary translators, we intend to understand translation work in its broad context and enhance its social and cultural value for both countries.
