Friedrich Schiller war seit J. E. Purkyněs Lyrikübersetzungen (1841) und Josef Jiří Kolárs Dramenüberstzungen (seit 1859) öfter ins Tschechische übersetzt. Ludvík Kunderas Übertragung von Don Carlos, entstanden ursprünglich für die Aufführung von Jan Grossmann in Eger/Cheb, ist durch ihre Vollständigkeit und ihre treffliche moderne Bühnensprache im tschechischen Kontext einmalig.

The tradition of Czech translations of Fridrich Schiller s poems (1841 by J. E. Purkyně) and of his dramas (1859 by Josef Jiří Kolár) is rich. Ludvík Kundera s translation of Don Carlos (1987 for Jan Grossmann and his performance in Cheb) is because of its completeness and its modern stage language unique in the Czech context.
