Der Begriff digitalisierte Dokument ist möglich in zwei Gestalten zu verstehen. Erstens, es handelt sich um digitalisierte historische Quellen, und zweitens, die Dokumente des Verwaltungs- und Amtsverkehrs (das heißt künftigen historischen Quellen) entstehen bereits in digitalisierter Form. Digitalizierung ausgewählten bedeutenden historischen Quellen vermittelt offentlicher und problemloser Zugang und erleichtert positiv die Quellenforschug. Das Bestehen des Dokuments nur in elektronischer Form kann vom Gesichtspunkt der Diplomatik schwere Verluste bedeuten, weil die Schriftstücke verschiedene Informationen verlieren, die zur Rekonstruktion des specifischen Geschäftsganges verschiedenen Behörden abgehen werden. Die Konzepte ganz verschwinden, die Möglichkeit der Fälchungen auch erhöhet wird. Die Bewahrung der digitalen Dokumenten wird in finanzieller und technischer Hinsicht anspruchsvoller als die Deponierung der Papier- oder Pergamentschriftstüke.

The term digital document means digitalized historical source but also administrative documents or documents of official apparatus (the future historical sources), already created in digital form. Digitalization of historical sources leads to their easy availability and facilitates positive historical research. Existence of the document in electronic form only may mean in the terms of diplomatics heavy losses, because documents are losing various information, which will be missing in the future during reconstruction of the specific official processes. The concepts completely disappear, the possibility of falsification of documents is increasing. Also maintaining of the digital archives will be much more financially and energetically difficult, then having paper or parchment documents digitalized.
