The article is devoted to the use of the M. Porter`s competition model to analyze the level of competition in the field of cultural and event tourism at the international level. It explores the potential of the domestic event activities in the field of culture from the perspective of the development of tourism at the moment and in the long run. The model used by M. Porter is recommended for methodological support of the development of cultural and event tourism in the Russian Federation.
