Adhesion of EPS-producing lactic acid bacteria from breast milk and dairy sources to the Caco-2 and HT29 intestinal cell tissue models
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Adhesion is one of the crucial properties for probiotics, as it directly influences their effectiveness in colonizing the gut and exerting their beneficial effects. Eight strains of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) originated from breast milk, semi-hard cheese and pickle juice were tested for their adhesion ability to the human intestinal cell model Caco-2 and HT29 (coculture in ratio 9:1). As a control, the strain Lactobacillus acidophilus LA5, known for its good adhesion ability, was used. The adhesion of the tested strains ranged from 0.16 to 6.20 % and exhibited strain-apecific characteristics. The highest adhesion was observed for Lacticaseibacillus paracasei subsp. paracasei 2023-13 (6.20%) and Lactobacillus helveticus 5.2.1B (5.19%), even surpassing the adhesion rate of control strain LA (4.88%). Lower adhesion abilities were observed for the rest of the strains tested. Understanding factors affecting adhesion variability, such as surface structures and host interactions, could inform strain selection for optimized probiotic formulations.
