Der Aufsatz untersucht das Vorkommen von Merkreimen und Lehrgedichten in mathematischen Lehrbüchern der Frühen Neuzeit. Diese Werke waren der Vermittlung mathematischer Grundkenntnisse für angehende Kaufleute gewidmet. Der Artikel stellt eine exemplarische Auswahl von Reimen und Gedichten vor und diskutiert deren Funktion für den Mathematikunterricht. Der Autor betont, dass gereimte Passagen in fast allen Bereichen (Algebra, Geometrie usw.) dieser Lehrbücher vorkommen können. Merkreime und Lehrgedichte werden in den Werken vor allem verwendet, um den Inhalt einprägsamer zu vermitteln und die Darstellung von Inhalten anschaulich zu gestalteten. Letzteres gilt insbesondere für Reime auf dem Gebiet der Unterhaltungsmathematik, die auch häufig Bestandteil der Lehrbücher sind. Durch die Verwendung einer praxisorientierten Unterrichtssprache wird jedoch das künstlerische Potenzial der Reime erheblich reduziert.

The essay examines the occurrence of rhyming mnemonic devices and doctrinal poems in Early Modern German mathematical textbooks. These works were dedicated to the teaching of basic mathematical knowledge for prospective merchants. The article presents an exemplary selection of mnemonic rhymes and doctrinal poems and discusses their function for the teaching of mathematics. The author emphasizes that rhymed passages can occur in almost all areas (algebra, geometry, etc.) of those textbooks. Mnemonic rhymes and doctrinal poems are used in the works primarily to convey the content in a more memorable fashion and to deformalize the presentation of content. The latter is especially true for rhyming in the field of entertainment mathematics, which is also often a feature of the textbooks. However, by using practically oriented language in instruction, the artistic potential of the rhymes is significantly reduced.
