There has always been a debate to what extent a translator is an artist or just a worker mechanically replacing words in one language by words in another language. The gap has deepened even more after technical and legal texts started to be the most frequently translated and mainly after the introduction of computer assisted translation (CAT). While technology might be stealing a part of translator's identity, it has a potential to be a great tool, not onlz for the commonly presented reasons of increased productivity and improved consistency. It can be also effectively used in training of translators providing them, with an option to compare their solutions with others, and thus extend the range of their own choices and lad to better competence. As a part of a project solved at the English Department of TUL we have decided to study the way a translation memory (TM) can be usec in courses of translation for future teachers of English.
