Making Homework an Effective Tool for Language Learning
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Research studies on homework show both advantages and disadvantages of homework as an instructional tool. Positive results regard academic benefits, development of study and time management skills, and parental involvement in their child’s learning. On the other hand, research shows that homework creates unnecessary stress on students, reduces their free time and disrupts family life. Despite these conflicting research results, homework is generally considered an important part of formal education as long as it is properly assigned by the teachers. However a traditional approach to assigning homework, which often lacks purpose and real-life significance, still dominates in EFL classes at schools. The aim of the article is to rethink the role of homework, outline the main methodological principles of handling homework, and provide examples of assignments that can be a valuable tool for reinforcing learning.
