The paper concentrates on tertiary education in foreign languages, mainly in business English at School of Business Admistration in Karviná. The aim is to emphasize changes which have been introduced into the educational sphere due to the globalization,needs of the European Union, the situation in the society or IT progress. The impact of mentioned above is crucial to all spheres in our society including business and therefore it effects the higher demands for language skills and competencies. It is pointed out that education has to keep the change to be able to reflect the needs of the job market, not to lag behind the trends in the EU. All levels of education and training, including tertiary need to be made more attractive and efficient to enable all citizens to acquire key competencies, including language competencies to ensure their employability in today's labour market, which is dependent on language skills more than before.
