Multicultural Education in the Post-Socialist Czech Republic

This study deals with multicultural education as it is applied in secondary schools in the Czech Republic. It addresses the present situation, and materials used for the application of multicultural education in school reform that is under consideration.It deals also with other educational documents and some legal regulations covering this area. It examines which perspectives, and which conceptions of multiculturalism, influence the creators of curricula reform and what are teachers' possibilities. Italso looks at how multicultural education relates to the so-called Roma problem and what possible approaches to the whole issue it enables. The text represents the partial output of more extensive research that monitors how the wording of official documents can make the relations in society more complicated. Its sources are semi-structured dialogues with twelve high school teachers and the analysis of school documents.
