Der Beitrag widmet sich dem Fachübersetzen sowohl vom theoretischen als auch vom praktischen Gesichtspunkt aus. Es werden ein paar neue theoretische Konzeptionen vorgestellt, die sich mit dem Fachübersetzen und den fachtextuellen Spezifika befassen. Durch praktische Beispiele wird belegt, welche Anforderungen an die Übersetzer bezüglich der Sprachen- und Fachkompetenz gestellt werden und welchen die Fachkompetenz betreffenden Problemen die Übersetzer in der Praxis begegnen können. Besondere Aufmerksamkeit wird den Fällen gewidmet, wo man in der Zielsprache explizieren muss.

The paper deals with professional translations from both theoretical and practical point of view. It presents several new theoretical concepts that deal with technical language translation and specific features of technical texts. Practical examples showwhat requirements are placed on the translator in the field of language and professional skills, and what issues regarding the professional competence the translators may encounter. Particular attention is paid to cases where it is necessary to explicate in the target language.
