Suitability and appropriateness of involvement of real life examples to mathematical education at high school, is discussed very frequently. In the presented paper I would like to show that classification of application problems is needed. I use the simple classification of applications in mathematical education. The applications that illustrate or motivate to work with the pure theory, applications in other subjects like physics, chemistry, biology, economy, and the most complex type of application ofmathematics in real world connected with mathematical modelling. In more details I discuss the maths tasks connected with the Van der Waals equation. The most efficient way how to include some physical applications into mathematical lessons is to familiarize students with the underlying maths in a physics topic. This is better than to fabricate some artificial examples from a real life.
