Teacher view performance of their pupils from two perspectives: the student's individual history (individual reference norms) and the social comparison in terms of class average (social reference norms) (Rheinberg, 1980, 2001; Dickhäser Rheinberg, 2003).MethodParticipants were 12 women elementary school teachers and their 286 pupils (age of 10; 166 boys, 120 girls). Instruments: (1) The Czech version of Rheinbergs' Questionnaire for Determining Reference - Norm Orientation (Rheinberg, 1980) - teachers were divided according to their preferred reference norms into high social, social, individual, and high individual norms groups. (2) Schmalt's Achievement Motive Grid for school and sports activities for children provided scores for Hope of Success (HS)and Fear of Failure, i. e. FF1 (similar to debilitating anxiety) and FF2 (analogue of facilitating anxiety).ResultsGLM with repeated measures was used where pupils' scores on HS, FF1, FF2 in school and sport served as repeated meas
