Chapter 3 on current situation of tertiary language research in the Czech Republic refers to the current state of affairs in the area of multilingualism methodology in the Czech Republic. It presents several essential definitions and aims at setting thebasic tasks for teacher training. Multilingualism methodology should be a self-evident part of foreign language teacher training which, besides traditional disciplines, should offer comparative linguistics and intercultural comparative studies as well. It is desirable for future teachers to speak at least two foreign languages and be capable of persuading their pupils of the purpose of multilingualism as well. Important prerequisite of such aims is a close cooperation among foreign language university departments, organizing joint symposia, lectures and workshops, or an agreement to teach subjects across the individual languages. It is also necessary to train future teachers to be more fault-tolerant.
