This contribution addresses the issue of problem posing as an educational and assessment tool in the professional preparation of primary school teachers. During the qualitative study reported here, we asked 45 future primary school teachers to pose their own one-picture cartoons (called Concept Cartoons) that could hypothetically serve as a basis for their own mathematical lesson. Then we analysed in which way they included multiple representations of mathematical content in them, namely, what was represented and how. Illustrative samples are given for cartoons with and without multiple representations, and all the included types of mathematical representations are summarised. As a result, the newly revealed representation-related features of Concept Cartoons are detailed.
