Human Resource management of small and medium-sized enterprises"(039/2013/S). Focusing on the human and intellectual capital of region in connection with the cultural capital opens up possibilities of regional and society development based on the knowledge economy. The most effective use of knowledge can be associated with desirable cultural dimensions. The aim of this paper is to find cultural dimensions of G. Hofstede that are a prerequisite for entry into the knowledge economy. The result emphasizes cultural dimensions that are required for the effective use of knowledge and development of human capital. Among the desirable cultural dimensions is the small power distance supporting the transfer of knowledge, good communication and society consistency. Collectivism refers to the synergy of teams, as well as the use of tacit knowledge stemming from a cultural capital. Feminity with an atmosphere of trust enables the development of human potential, the quality of life and the environment, all contributing to social responsibility. Acceptance of changes results from discontinuous globalization flows. And a long-term orientation is associated with investing in human capital. Paper is based on the study project Study of rural economy at the University of South Bohemia in the České Budějovice registered with the Ministry of Education under registration number CZ.1.07/2.2.00/07.078 and Project Grant Agency of South Bohemia "Human Resource management of small and medium-sized enterprises' (039/2013/S).
