Manner -inly adverbials - their sentence position, register distribution and FSP function in contrastive analysis

This article deals with the findings based on the research of ing participle based adverbials functioning as manner adjuncts and their Czech adverbial counterparts. The end position in the sentence signals the integrated character of the manner adverbialfunctioning either as an optional or obligatory complement of the verbal predication. When translating ?ingly manner adverbs into Czech, the choice from semantically more or less fitting Czech adverbs does not seem to be a problem. However, there can beobserved differences between Czech and English adverbials in their placement. Moreover, the positions of ?ingly manner adverbs depend on the choice of the register. The article compares the occurrence of such manner adjuncts in the two registers, fictional and non-fictional prose. The author of the paper focuses on the positions of English ?ingly manner adverbials and compares them with their Czech counterparts in respect to their different roles in the Functional Sentence Perspective (
