The Concept of Everyday Life and History Teaching
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
After introducing the basic titles of Czech historiography related to the concept of everyday life, the authors describe the content and form of the university course History of Everyday Life in the 19th and 20th Centuries, taught at the Faculty of Arts, University of Ostrava, and intended for future secondary school teachers. The most extensive part of the study is a treatise on the topics of everyday life and ways of their presentation in Czech History textbooks for primary and secondary education. Attention is paid to the amount of emphasis placed on individual topics and to the differences in authors’ attitudes based on the level of education (primary/secondary). The content of the information provided by means of interpretative or supplementary texts can be considered adequate, especially when they are divided into separate passages. The study concludes that a significant shortcoming of Czech textbook production is the insufficient number of written sources of various provenance, which would offer a multiperspective view and create an opportunity for the application of so-called research-oriented teaching. The iconographic sources are dominated by photographs in an illustrative, not the desired heuristic, function.
